Application Procedure
Please Note - As of January 2005 there are programmes running under the Pacific Venture umbrella:
1. All grandchildren of Far Eastern Prisoners of War and Civilian Internees notified to the project are recorded on a data base
2. Groups are invited to take part in a variety of friendship study tours to Japan by age range. When told of forthcoming trips all those on the data base within the given age range are notified.
3. Those who express interest are sent an application form or asked to supply a c.v. and essay.
4. All applications received by the closing date are forwarded to the selection committee.
5. All applicants are notified of the selectors' decision and successful applicants are invited to attend a final selection/orientation meeting.
6. Unsuccessful applicants and those who decline to apply on that occasion remain on the data base and may be contacted again for another trip.
7. For some types of study tours a longer interview or orientation programme is necessary.
8. On some types of study tour non POW/CI grandchildren are included.
9. Up to four chaperones may accompany the study tour groups. These may include POW/CI children or grandchildren.
10. Following the 10 year programme ( 1995 - 2004 ) a short extension has been agreed, altough it will still not be possible to invite all the grandchildren on the list, but every attempt is being made to offer a chance to apply to as many as possible.
- two week trip in August every year (usually for 16-18 year olds)
- an occasional 10 day trip for selected age groups over 20
- a 5-10 month stay for 15-19 year olds.
