Typical Itinerary

Five / Ten Month Stay                                                  ( Encounter Japan Programme)

Although these trips operate under the umbrella of the Pacific Venture they are managed by an international friendship organisation called Youth For Understanding which is reponsible for finding the homestay families and the host schools in Japan.

Following a two day orientation in London in March, participants in the ten month trip leave immediately for Japan. Those on the five month trip travel to Japan in August. Both groups return together in January of the following year.

On arrival in Japan participants take part in a longer (up to a week) orientation session in Tokyo, before meeting their host families and moving to their new homes. After a few days the new school term starts and particpants go daily to their host school where they are expected to enter fully into both classes and club activities.

Tuition in Japanese is provided by correspondence course.

Particpants have at least one opportunity to meet with others in their area during their stay.
