What We Do - Pacific Venture enables British young people, in particular those who are direct descendants of former Prisoners of War and Civilian Internees held by the Japanese half a century ago to:
- meet each other and become a friendship group by attending two Orientation Sessions in England:
- travel in that group to Japan where they can stay for approximately two weeks, five months or ten months.
- share with others, on their return, their thoughts and experiences and explore more deeply any new interests the trip may have generated.
Our Aims - the participants will have an opportunity to share the lifestyles of young Japanese of the same age. They will also have a chance to visit famous sites, traveling widely within Japan. Thus they will increase their knowledge and understanding of Japan, the Japanese and their culture, while at the same time giving their counterparts in Japan much clearer insights into British ways and thought.
Funding - Pacific Venture is funded, in all aspects, by Japanese benefactors and is intended, in a spirit of peace and friendship, to allow young people in both countries to grow in mutual understanding of past experiences and future possibilities.
The Pacific Venture programme, with its voluntary support from the private sector, has been warmly endorsed and actively encouraged by both the British and Japanese Governments.
